Campbell’s Story
ur son, Campbell, made a swift arrival into the world in August 2022, six weeks before his due date. My husband and I were no strangers to premature babies, as our eldest daughter, Dylan, had been born five weeks early several years prior. While Dylan developed rather typically, almost immediately we recognized Campbell would be facing different challenges. Within his first few months of life, his gross motor delays became evident. He wasn’t rolling over, sitting or crawling anywhere near the expected timeline and we expressed our concern. After a few months of private physical therapy that yielded little result (and was outrageously expensive), our pediatrician suggested a referral to Boyer.
After an incredibly in-depth assessment process, the team at Boyer identified his needs beyond just gross motor PT, but also the benefit of adding in occupational therapy as well as speech-language pathology. We began home visit therapy as well as enrolled him in the Tiny Stars playgroup program. Within his first few weeks, it was clear that his success with this team was inevitable. Each therapist he’s worked with in our home has provided us with immense warmth, understanding and knowledge that we can’t even begin to express our gratitude for. When Campbell has therapy on an occasional day our daughter is home from school, Dylan is included in therapy and made to feel an important part of the team by all our Boyer “friends.” Our coordinators and everyone on the administrative side have been our backbone- answering our many, many questions thoroughly and supportively. I have even found myself calling our coordinator just to vent frustrations, and she is always available to listen and Campbell’s biggest cheerleader. (Thanks, Maya)
But most importantly, Campbell feels safe, supported and truly loved by everyone we have interacted with- our biggest priority of all. He’s made fantastic progress in all his therapies, hitting milestones we truly feared at one point he may never achieve. We’ve been referred through the clinic to multiple programs that have hugely benefited our knowledge of his condition and how we can support him as parents. Our guy is also now a happy and active participant in the Rising Stars playgroup, where he is making friends and getting a great introduction into a preschool structured classroom. To Campbell, each therapy session or classroom day is an opportunity to “play” with his favorite people. To us, it’s an opportunity to watch him thrive and grow in a way we struggled to picture until Boyer- we could not be more thankful.
With Gratitude,
Erik, Molly, Dylan and Campbell
